2022 ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR YOUNG WOMEN ON THE MOVE’S GIRL EMPOWER CAMP

 

EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN TO LIVE HEALTHY LIVES

This summer’s GIRL EMPOWER CAMP, July 5-July 23 will engage middle school age young women in a variety of fun activities aimed at minimizing summer learning loss, while enhancing growth in mental and emotional health. Weekly workshops will equip campers with knowledge and skills to make healthy and wise choices, discover their strengths, and gain confidence.  

The GIRL EMPOWER CAMP is a supplemental component to Young Women on the Move’s middle school and high schools After School Programs. Through the course of this summer, we focus on three core modules:

  1. Girls’ Health – understanding our bodies and emotions and how to practice self-care.

  2. Personal and Civic Leadership – learning our unique strengths and how to use them to make a positive difference wherever we are – at home, school, community, world.

  3. Healthy Relationships – learning effective communication skills, how to recognize and avoid unhealthy relationships, tools for making healthy choices that future success.

Fun activities include cooking classes in our new Culinary Academy, trips to a community garden and a Farmers Market, learning about nutrition, and healthy meal preparation, and etiquette. Campers will learn to create a personal finance plan through credit and savings by earning Butterfly Bucks, credit vouchers to purchase merchandise in our Butterfly store. Guest presenters will engage campers in activities such as creative arts, fitness, and service projects.

We are now providing in-person and, in some cases, virtual programming. Young Women on the Move is committed to the safety and the social, emotional well-being of all our youth, staff, and volunteers. COVID-19 safety guidelines of the Wyandotte County Health Department are followed for all in-person contacts. We encourage youth, 12 years and older, and adults to be vaccinated. Masks are required for those not vaccinated.
